Mad About Music (MAM)

Mad About Music made its first concert tour to Chihuahua, Mexico, in 1985, as the special guests of Governor Oscar Ornelas. That trip was sponsored by Albuquerque/Chihuahua Sister Cities organization and our students performed in Chihuahua’s “Theater of the Heroes”, as well in several public schools.
That trip led to several other school tours in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Socorro. These school concerts were usually in front of the entire student body, and included audience involvement. I think I grew more via these multifaceted performances than any of the students with whom I worked.

Mad About Music currently has students from ages 10 – 17 years of age, and are products of violin, cello and viola studios from the greater Albuquerque area. Our students do not audition for admission, but are required to attend weekly rehearsals and to practice the music. MAM has traveled to Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., and throughout the state of New Mexico.

Parents are an integral part of the group, and are the reason our tours are successful! Without their tireless work, MAM would not be what it is today.
